Vsevolod Baibak commented to “St. Petersburg” TV the situation with the oil products tanker Mekhanik Chebotaryov arrested in Libya.

“Despite lacking of the detailed information and its inconsistency, a fact stays that according to the international agreements, vessel is considered, as a territory of Russian Federation that implicates Russian Council should be allowed to visit it any time. Depending on essence of the claims from the Libyan side, it could result in initiation of a criminal case (for example, for contraband) or it could be a civil claim such as maintenance of the vessel. Based on this it would be clear which measures should be taken”, thinks Vsevolod Baibak, Partner of Iusland Law Offices.

According to the information in media the oil products tanker Mekhanik Chebotaryov has been arrested by Libyan military ship in the high seas on September 16th 2015. According to the opened sources, Libyan authorities for several days did not allow Russian Consulate aboard.
